English section / City guide Norrkoping is Sweden's seventh largest city and lies 90 minutes south of Stockholm. The city is situated on the east coast of Sweden and is easy to reach by car - 4 hours from Gothenburg, and has good rail connections. Norrkoping is a city steeped in history. The Motala River, which runs through the heart of the city was once the industrial heartland which fired the city's expansion. Instead of being demolished the area has been preserved and now depicts the Norrkoping of old with its cotton mills and paper mill. A number of these buildings also house the city's new industries, the electronics and IT companies. By Car: Norrkoping lies on the East coast and is easily accessible. From Stockholm drive South on the E20/E4 and stay on the E4, past Nykoping, until you reach Norrkoping. Travelling from Gothenburg cruise along Motorway 40 until Boras, switch to E4 at Jonkoping and head north to Norrkoping and Stockholm. From the South (Malmo) take the E6/E20 to Helsingborg and from there the E4 past Jonkoping to Norrkoping (all in all a six hour drive. By Train: Several trains to and from Stockholm evert day. The journey takes approximately 1h45m. Gothenburg and Malmo are three hours away. By Air: Kungsängens flygplats. You have to take a taxi from the airport to get to the city centre. International flights go to Arlanda (Stockholm) and from there you will have to take the train. More information |
